چکیده

The development of a medical surgical tool packaged with micro sensors for transmission of Supermedia information over the Internet is described in this paper. We define Supermedia as a set of communication media, which encompasses acoustic, force, visual, audio, temperature, tactile, and chemical (e.g., taste an smell) information, and which can be physically experienced by a communicator. In this project, we specifically develop Supermedia capability for a bonereaming system that is used for intramedullary fixation procedure of fractured bone treatments. Thus far, transmission of temperature, force, and pressure information from MEMS sensors over the Internet has been demonstrated. Force-reflective control over the Internet using force information from a micro tip has also been shown. We have also packaged a MEMS pressure sensor inside a bone reaming guide-rod and proved that pressure variations inside a long cavity that simulated the environment inside a bone can be monitored, even with the guide-rod rotating up to 600rpm. This paper describes our experimental methods and gives the experimental results for these accomplishments.

Development of A Bone Reaming System Using Micro Sensors For Internet Force-feedback Control

Internal fixation is a widely used treatment method to repair bone fracture, which is one of the most common orthopedic trauma. However, in reaming of the intramedullary canal to facilitate insertion of a guiding rod by creating a surgical passage, severe disturbances such as increased local cortical temperature and elevation of intramedullary pressure can occur. These disturbances have resulte...

A Bone Reaming System with Tactile Temperature Display

A bone reaming system with temperature tactile sensation display was developed for potential use during bone internal fixation surgery. The developed reaming system will allow tracking of the amount of heat generated inside fractured bones by surgeons throughout the reaming process. It consists of a temperature sensing system to measure the bone cavity temperature, a rotor system to provide the...

Using an Appropriate Controller for Independent Current Control for Motoring of Force Windings of Bearing less Induction Motor

A bearingless induction machine has combined characteristics of induction motor and magnetic bearings. Therefore, the advantages are small size and low-cost. In the magnetic suspension of the bearingless motors, suspension forces are generated based on the feedback signals of displacement sensors detecting the movement of the rotor shaft. The suspension forces are generated taking an advantage ...

Cardiopulmonary response to reamed intramedullary nailing of the femur with a traditional reaming system and a one-step reamer-irrigator-aspirator reaming system; an experimental study in pigs

Introduction There is general agreement that early internal stabilization in long bone fractures in severely injured patients is advantageous. Intramedullary reaming and nailing, however, include increased intramedullary pressure. This may cause intravasation of bone marrow contents, leading to bone marrow embolisation and altered cardiopulmonary function. Possible beneficial effects of attenua...
